Wikipedia is among the most prominent, enduring, and highly respected online platforms. This consistent presence underscores the platform’s widespread relevance. The question emerges: do Wikipedia backlinks retain their remarkable efficacy in the contemporary digital landscape? The resounding answer is a definitive yes.

Wikipedia’s stronghold, formidable user traffic, and unwavering authority project a future of sustained significance. The value derived from acquiring Wikipedia backlinks is substantial, presenting many opportunities. This article embarks on a journey to unveil the secrets of creating an array of Wikipedia backlinks, employing uncomplicated methods.

Moreover, it doesn’t stop there. A clever and subtle strategy for securing links from authoritative sources will also be divulged if you aspire to construct an unlimited array of connections that thrust your website into prominence, read on for enlightening exploration.

What Makes Building Links with Wikipedia So Crucial?

Link building with Wikipedia holds paramount significance in digital marketing and online visibility. This practice offers a plethora of compelling reasons why it should be an integral part of your strategy. Let’s delve into the key factors that underscore the importance of cultivating links from this venerable platform:

Unrivaled Authority: Wikipedia is a paragon of trustworthiness and accuracy. It’s stringent editorial standards and rigorous sourcing lend unparalleled authority to its content. Associating your website with such a respected source through backlinks enhances your credibility and trustworthiness for both users and search engines.

Global Recognition: As one of the most visited websites globally, Wikipedia commands an extensive international audience. Gaining backlinks from this platform opens the doors to a diverse and vast pool of potential visitors. These links can drive targeted traffic to your website, expanding your reach beyond your usual boundaries.

Enhanced Search Engine Visibility: Search engines hold Wikipedia highly esteemed due to its reliability and relevance. Links from Wikipedia can elevate your website’s search engine ranking, augmenting its visibility and exposure to a broader audience. This, in turn, translates to increased organic traffic and potential conversions.

Topical Relevance: Wikipedia covers many topics, making it suitable for diverse industries and niches. Securing backlinks from relevant Wikipedia pages bolsters your website’s contextual relevance within your industry. This alignment can foster higher engagement rates and an improved user experience.

Long-lasting Impact: Wikipedia’s enduring presence on the internet ensures the longevity of the backlinks you establish. Unlike some fleeting online mentions, Wikipedia links endure over time, providing a lasting source of referral traffic and authority.

Recognition from Peers: Earning a backlink from Wikipedia is a notable achievement that can resonate within your industry. Your content is worthy of reference by a widely respected source, potentially leading to increased recognition and collaboration opportunities within your field.

Mastering the Art of Wikipedia Link Building: Unveiling the Key Aims

Engaging in link building within the Wikipedia ecosystem is a nuanced endeavor, surpassing the straightforward notion of merely desiring a spot on a prominent page by proclaiming, “My content is superior; replace theirs with mine!” A strategic and systematic approach is essential to harness Wikipedia’s potential for link building.

Navigating the terrain of Wikipedia link building requires a keen understanding of the opportunities that await. This journey presents three pivotal types of link-building prospects, each with its strategic nuances:

Dead Link Opportunities: Unveiling the potential within dead links lies at the heart of effective Wikipedia link building. These are instances where existing Wikipedia pages reference external websites that no longer exist or have changed URLs. Seizing dead link opportunities involves identifying such references and creating high-quality, relevant content that can serve as a replacement. By presenting your content as a viable substitute for the defunct link, you contribute to Wikipedia’s accuracy and secure a valuable backlink in return.

Broken Link Opportunities: Broken links, which lead users to non-existent or erroneous web pages, represent another avenue for strategic link building on Wikipedia. Similar to dead link opportunities, identifying broken links and offering well-crafted, pertinent content as a replacement improves the user experience on Wikipedia and enables you to gain a reputable backlink.

Unique Link Opportunities: Distinguishing itself from the realm of dead and broken links, the unique link opportunity involves finding pages on Wikipedia that touch upon topics closely related to your content. You can propose an addition or citation by demonstrating the relevance and value of your content to the existing Wikipedia page. This tactic enhances the page’s depth and credibility and allows you to secure a valuable link.

Discovering the Ideal Synthesis: Uniting the Spectrum of Opportunities

A harmonious and adaptable Wikipedia backlink building strategy emerges by amalgamating the potential inherent in dead, broken, and unique link opportunities. This comprehensive approach offers many possibilities that can be easily managed, granting you a multifaceted toolkit for cultivating your backlink portfolio. Here’s how this strategy can empower your link building endeavors:

Leverage Dead Links for Wikipedia Backlinks: Harness the potential of dead links by adeptly substituting them with your well-crafted content. This facilitates the enhancement of Wikipedia’s accuracy and empowers you to secure valuable backlinks in return.

Utilize Broken Links to Attain Authority Site Links: When identified and tactfully replaced with relevant content, Broken links serve as a conduit for securing links from authoritative sources. This approach contributes to the integrity of Wikipedia and establishing your website as a reliable resource within your industry.

Integrate Unique Links into Wikipedia Pages: Including your distinct and pertinent links within Wikipedia articles enriches the overall value of the platform. By proposing thoughtful additions that align with existing content, you amplify Wikipedia’s credibility and gain exposure through valuable backlinks.

By executing this dynamic strategy across multiple pages, the potential for link acquisition flourishes exponentially. With each page optimized to incorporate dead, broken, and unique link opportunities, your repertoire of targeted, relevant backlinks expands substantially.

This meticulously crafted approach offers more than just an influx of links; it ushers in a substantial surge of link authority and pertinent traffic.

In a recent discussion that transpired over Twitter, Google’s Search Advocate reaffirmed what the SEO community always believed, somewhat. Yes, using a hierarchical structure with heading elements on a web page is useful to Google. But before we get into the why’s, let’s take a minute or two to understand what hierarchical structure with heading elements actually means before we move on to how it positively impacts your site’s search performance. Heading elements (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6) are indicative of what the web page is all about, or a section of it, where H1 is the highest rank of importance and H6, the lowest. The purpose of using different heading elements is simply to make the content piece more accessible to the users, and help search engines understand which sections of the page are most important and which are the least.

What is the official word on using a hierarchical structure with heading elements?

Official HTML Specifications, in Section 4.3.11, states that:

“h1–h6 elements have a heading level, which is given by the number in the element’s name. If a document has one or more headings, at least a single heading within the outline should have a heading level of 1.”

Mozzilla’s official developer reference page states something similar:

“The <h1> to <h6> HTML elements represent six levels of section headings. <h1> is the highest section level and <h6> is the lowest. Avoid using multiple <h1> elements on one page. While using multiple <h1> elements on one page is allowed by the HTML standard (as long as they are not nested), this is not considered a best practice. A page should generally have a single <h1> element that describes the content of the page (similar to the document’s <title> element).”

In either of the cases, it is quite clear that using more than one H1 element is not recommended as it can, possibly, confuse search engines about important sections on a page.

What does Google say about it?

When a Twitter user, an SEO by profession, suggested that he is too traditional with header elements and would recommend using just one H1 element on a page, John Mueller backed it up with a response and said that he thought it was an excellent idea. He also added that hierarchical structure is not useful to Google but is also important for accessibility.

John Tweeted, and we quote:

“I think that’s an awesome idea & a great practice. Header hierarchy is not just useful to Google, it’s also important for accessibility. (Google still has to deal with whatever weird things people throw up on the web, but being thoughtful in your work always makes sense.)”

While it is true that back in the day the H1 element used to be an important ranking factor and an used (and abused) strategy to get Google’s attention was to put the keyword in the H1 in hope to get higher rankings. However, that is not the case now, no matter how many people still persist with this strategy. Over the years, Google has evolved to a higher plane and can easily decipher what the whole page is all about. Nevertheless, using different heading elements by implementing a proper hierarchical structure can make it easier for Google to better understand your page as well as help your users easily access all the important sections on the page.

I'm too traditional with header elements. (HTML 4 for Life! lol)
I'd still recommend using just one H1 element on a page.
I patiently go back to pages to implement header hierarchy for fun.

— Deji Luminous (@deji_luminous) February 2, 2023

Sometimes, apart from Search Engine Optimisation, you may find yourself in dire need of Search Engine De-optimisation. Yes, there are times when a web page of yours might start ranking well. But it’s not the page you want your keyword to rank for. This is precisely where the latter comes into the picture. It’s a necessary step, long but eventually will do your website and business more good in the long run. Here are 5 simple steps you should stick to when an incorrect page starts ranking.

Choose the page you want to rank for a keyword, obviously

This is a no-brainer. Choose the page that you want to show up on the search results when people type in the keyword. The why’s need to be clear in your head before you do anything else. And that’s why you need to perform an extensive SERP analysis, which includes changing the keyword entirely if there is just too much content and monotony to show up for it in the results. We recommend you perform a detailed keyword research and analysis to help your case.

Assign the keyword and its variants to the page

Once you are dead-set on the keyword, the next step is to assign it to the desired page. The important thing here to remember here is never assign the same keyword to more than one page as it can cause canonical issues, which confuses Google which page to consider while determining its SERP position. You also need to remove the keyword from the page you want to de-optimise because naturally, your desired page needs to be the most useful page on the internet for that keyword.

Compare content between the already-ranking pages with your desired page

Now this will take some doing. Check out evaluate, at the very least, the top five pages that rank for the keyword you want to use for your most important page. Hand them over the writers and have them take a closer look at the content and identify what’s working for them. If you feel your page’s content is way behind theirs, you know what to do. Rewrite the whole piece, if need be, in order to get ahead of your competitors. Focus on user intent; that’s the only way you’re doing justice to both your users and search engines in 2023.

Strengthen your desired page’s internal linking structure

Internal linking is a powerful strategy to help content rank higher on the search results. It is also a strategy that is often overlooked by most. Having the right kind of internal links on a page can help search engines understand the page better and whether or not it directs to other important pages on your websites. Doing so is also a great way to go one step ahead in guiding users on your website and make them stay a little longer on your website, thereby decreasing the bounce rate and increasing, of course, the rankings. In due time, we should add.

Evaluate and strengthen your backlink profile

Backlinks are like votes of confidence and appreciation from other websites. And the better these websites’ image, the better it is for your website. You may start with auditing your backlink profile, remove any bad links or dead links, and then compare where your website stands when compared to some of those you wish yours was like. Look to fill the gap as much as possible by earning high-quality backlinks from popular and trusted websites within your niche. If it sounds like too much work, don’t worry. We can help you build you a solid backlink profile.

The last but not the least step is to submit your web page to Google Search Console and let it run its business. Meanwhile, keep a close eye on your page’s performance metrics over an extended period of time.

Let’s cut the long story short: you cannot bypass your competition in terms of rankings by bypassing Google’s page experience requirements. You need to adhere to each one of them. This is exactly where Core Web Vitals (CWV) come into the picture. Even though CWV have been around for a long time, they officially became a ranking factor back in 2021. By February 2022, Google had fully rolled out this change to all mobile and desktop searches. And that means things like how quickly the largest image or piece of text on your website loads (Largest Contentful Paint), how quickly your site responds to a user’s input (First Input Delay), and how stable the page is after rendering (Cumulative Layout Shift) become all the more important. Without further ado, here are top 4 tips to optimising your site’s Core Web Vitals in 2023.

Dial up the image-load priority to high

You can play around with the images that cause the Largest Contentful Paint, and therein lies the secret, and the first tip. By default, images on a page are set to load on a low-priority basis. It is because the browser can’t tell the difference between whether the image is a hero-image or a small thumbnail that appears in the most insignificant part of the page. That means the browser will naturally wait longer to load those images unless you set the fetchpriority=”high” attribute. This is a nifty little tip that will have the browser load up the images on high priority, quickly.

Keep an eye out for render-blocking resources

The speed with which your web pages load might be directly related to the render-blocking resources. There’s a good chance you may not know anything about it. But here’s the truth: many CSS stylesheets and Javascripts request for render blocking, hampering the speed at which your website operates. In simpler words, until your website downloads all these required files, no content will show up as one opens your website. Naturally, the way forward is to identify and eliminate all the render-blocking sources so that your website loads faster, keeping your Core Web Vitals score in check.

High-quality speed tests are your best buds

Nothing will send your users running away quickly in search of better options than the speed with which your website loads. Not only is it extremely frustrating for everybody, but it also impacts your Core Web Vitals negatively, which in turn brings down your site’s rankings and traffic. To tackle this imperative issue, you must run high-quality speed tests frequently and identify, isolate, and rectify issues that might be causing slow page-load times. That Google places high importance on site speeds when determining which sites should land on the top of the search results should be motivation enough to do the needful.

Let Safari take your website out on a ride

It is no secret that downloading web images takes up a lot of bandwidth and not many browsers have made any real progress. Yes, they are slowly getting there but as we said, the progress has been lethargic. However, there is an exception — Safari. Luckily for us, Safari has introduced support for the compact AVIF image format which can significantly speed up websites by encoding the same amount of information in smaller files. It’s a win-win as we see it. So get on it straight away.

Now that the way forward is clear, you need to monitor your website’s Core Web Vitals consistently over time to ensure everything is running smoothly. Not only will it help you keep a tab on what performance optimisations are really working for you but also alert you when something goes off the rail. As enough time passes, you can go back to where you started and determine how far you’ve come and how much further you need to be. Happy optimising!

In the recently concluded Google’s January 2023 edition of the SEO Office-hours Hangout Q&A Session, Google Search Advocate John Mueller, and Analyst Gary Illyes took turns on answering queries related to websites publishing news articles. They also offered tips on the use of lastmod tags and using separate sitemaps and how websites can benefit from it. A lastmod tag stores information about the last time a story was updated or modified, and using it can help Google stay updated with the latest news pieces, thereby showing it in the search results. As far as using separate sitemaps, one for the news and one for the website in general, is not recommended. Having said that, it won’t cause problems, but help solve any either. What tips were offered on both the issues is something that we shall look into now. Let’s have a look at what our Google stalwarts had to say about questions at hand.

How and when to use a lastmod tag?

Here’s what one of the viewers, Michael, asked:

“The lastmod in a sitemap XML file for a news article, should that be the date of the last article update or the last comment?”

And here’s what John had to say about it:

“Since the site map file is all about finding the right moment to crawl a page based on its changes, the lastmod date should reflect the date when the content has significantly changed enough to merit being re-crawled.

If comments are a critical part of your page, then using that date is fine. Ultimately, this is a decision that you can make. For the date of the article itself, I’d recommend looking at our guidelines on using dates on a page.

In particular, make sure that you use the dates on a page consistently and that you structure data, including the time zone, within the markup.”

In summary, the lastmod tag should reflect the date when the article has gone through significant changes to warrant a re-crawl of the page. But if comments are an important part of the page, using the date for when the last comment was made is also acceptable. Doing so may make Google change the publication date altogether to make the page appear more recent and updated so that people would want to click on it.

But should you use a separate sitemap for news?

Here’s what one of the viewers, Helen, asked:

“Do you recommend to have news sitemap and general sitemap in the same website? Any issue if the news sitemap and general sitemap contain the same URL?”

And here’s what Gary Illyes had to say about it:

“You can have just one site map, a traditional web sitemap as defined by sitemaps.org, and then add the news extension to the URLs that need it. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to remove the news extension from URLs that are older than 30 days. For this reason it’s usually simpler to have a separate sitemap for news and for web.

Just remove the URLs altogether from the news site map when they become too old for news. Including the URLs in both site maps, while not very nice, will not cause any issues for you.”

In summary, while it is possible to have just one sitemap with the news extension added to the URL, it is both simpler and recommended to have two different sitemaps for news and general content. And that having sitemaps with duplicate URLs, though will not cause any problems, is usually not recommended. You can listen to Illyes’ and Mueller’s full response at the 01:20 minute mark, and perhaps stick around for the rest of the discussion for some other valuable insights.

Building a solid product or service is hard enough to begin with, and exhausting. Add to that the onus of creating a perfect website with all the SEO markers in place and it becomes even more tiresome. But what if you were to transfer that onus to the right person who can carry your website forward while you focus on what comes best to you. We are talking about an SEO expert, and pointing down top 5 reasons why you need one in 2023. And don’t worry, we’ll recommend you one, too.

Extensive Site Audit

It’s only natural for site owners to focus entirely on top-performing pages. But in doing so, a lot of junk creates itself, through no fault of the site owner, which starts weighing down the site as time passes. A regular, extensive complete site audit becomes a necessity then. An SEO expert can help unearth all the sinister things that may be holding the website back and take corrective measures thereon to put the website back on track.

Comprehensive Keyword Research and Analysis

Let’s put something straight; it’s not everybody’s game. Even if you have the time for it, you may not have the know-how. You need a dedicated SEO specialist to create a list of keyword phrases and terms that will reap you the benefits in the long run. Through comprehensive keyword research and analysis while keeping your niche, user intent, target audience and competitors in mind, an SEO expert can help you go a long way.

Ranking Highly Competitive Terms

Narrowing down keywords that have the high potential to benefit your website is one thing, but ranking them on top of the search results is a whole different ball game. It is something that is not easily achieved. Unless you have someone who is skilled at this art by your side. By creating a balance between super-competitive keyword terms and long-tail keywords, an SEO expert can help you put your website right at the top.

Navigating through Google’s Algorithm Changes

2022 alone saw as many as 10 officially-announced algorithm updates shake up the world wide web. Not to mention potentially thousands of updates that went unannounced but shook up the system nevertheless. Navigating through so many updates is no easy task; one is bound to feel exhausted by the sheer number. That is where an SEO expert who knows the insides of each update can help your website steer through all the ruckus.

High-quality Backlinks

You need to stop wondering. Yes, backlinks are extremely important in 2023, even Google says so. Backlinks serve a purpose that goes beyond just sending ranking signals to Google’s AI. They are a firestarter that promotes community engagement, gets your site discovered, and sparks additional ideas that lead to enhanced brand reach and value. And only an SEO expert that knows and appreciates their value can help you build solid links the right way.

SarkarSEO checks all the above boxes. In the last 12 years, he has helped rank thousands of competitive keywords for thousands of happy customers across niches across the world in all languages. He has helped innumerable websites perform exceedingly well despite all the updates. And he has a knack for building top-notch backlinks to promote business growth and brand value for his customers. Comprehensive site audit and keyword research and analysis are just added bonuses. Check out our Monthly SEO Packages that incorporate all of the above seamlessly.

SEO is a tricky business. It gets even trickier when you don’t know how much of it you need and how to go about investing in it. We say invest because we do not believe it is an expense. We consider it an indirect investment with higher returns over a longer period of time. If you are torn to no end thinking about how much of the green bills to put in the content basket or the UX basket so the rub of the green will go your business’ way, we are here to help and make the concept all too clear for you. Here’s what all you need to know about what constitutes a comprehensive SEO strategy and how to balance it all out with dedicated allocation of budget.

How to allocate your SEO funds in 2023

1. Clearly define what “SEO Services” are

People often think elements like content, web designing, user experience, and backlinks seem to operate outside of the magical realm of SEO. That’s the first mistake. Each of those elements is linked to the other. People also often overlook the formerly-mentioned issues, expecting “SEO” to make up for them. That’s the second and the gravest mistake. SEO is not about tickling search engine’s bot’s unmentionables, it is about creating a superior experience for the users, and meeting their search needs. We’re in 2023 and Google is getting closer than ever to mirroring its users’ expectations through AI-based solutions. Moving forward, you too need to be sure of what really constitutes SEO if you are to gain any SEO advantage over your peers.

2. Prioritise each task accordingly

With all due respect, you need to think of SEO outside of the traditional sense and acknowledge that all the elements we mentioned above (and more) are an integral part of the modern-day SEO concept. Proper information structure can make it easier for users to navigate through content pieces and different pages within the website. Elegant looking website can grab people’s attention by the hook and keep them at the page for an extended period of time, thereby decreasing your bounce rate. Enhanced user experience serves the same purpose, and prompts Google that the webpage is worth looking at. Getting the right keywords in place can help you get a clearer picture of what the users are looking for and how best to approach them. Content and backlinks when done right can spark community debate and that is never not rewarding.

To create a more streamlined system, you can prioritise each of those elements according to what you believe is right. Ignoring is simply not an option.

3. Allocate budget according to each prioritised task

Now that what constitutes SEO is clear in your head, hopefully, and prioritised, now is the time to allocate budget to it accordingly. For example, a company that churns out content on a daily basis is made up of a team of writers, so their budget for SEO content creation has already been paid for. They can prioritise other aspects such as web designing, improving user experience, and strategic acquisition of backlinks, and a majority of the budget would go towards that. Similarly, based on the niche you are in, you might have a different allocation in mind. Setting a definite budget would help you find out some method from the madness.

Where to allocate your SEO funds in 2023

1. You cannot get ahead without good content

And it costs money. But the returns are far greater than you could ever imagine. There is no match for content that is of high-quality, relevant, evergreen, written with in-depth research, has the potential to go viral, and of course is “helpful”. With the new Helpful Content System put in place by Google with two updates under its wing already, it is imperative that the content needs to be created by the people, for the people. To put it into Google’s words: “The helpful content system aims to better reward content where visitors feel they’ve had a satisfying experience, while content that doesn’t meet a visitor’s expectations won’t perform as well.”

If there were any doubts on just how important content is to your SEO strategy, there shouldn’t be any now. Ideally, it should be at least 30% of your total budget.

2. There’s no alternative to solid user experience

It appeals to both Google and the users. The fact that user experience is a definite ranking factor is no secret. And yet, many websites are found lacking any real thought in how to create a winning one. Issues like overall site design, content presentability, cross-pages accessibility, readability, load times, and value proposition if not done right, are a huge deterrent in providing good user experience to the majority of the users. In today’s cut-throat virtual race to stardom, you just cannot ignore your users. Outdated tactics or tired-looking websites can no longer suffice. Even if you think you have a substantial amount of website traffic, it will fall and become stagnant after a point.

If you don’t want that to happen, and want repeat customers who can’t stop singing praises for your website’s user experience, you need to allocate some SEO budget to it right away. Ideally, it should be at least 20% of your total budget.

3. Frequent audits keep the blues (and penalties) away

And keep your site in the pink of health. It is quite natural for website users to focus more on top-performing pages. However, in the process, sometimes, issues arise with other pages that often go unnoticed. Issues both technical and otherwise. They may look quite benign but trust us when we say, they are most definitely holding your website back. This is where frequent complete site audits come into the picture. They help you identify and isolate site issues like improper on-page optimisation or penalties. Fixing those issues or getting rid of penalties may not be your cup of tea. You may need an experienced professional SEO firm to work on hire for you.

If you feel you are doing everything right but are not able to find a place at the top of search results, we recommend you perform an extensive site audit as soon as possible. Ideally, it should be at least 10% of your total budget.

4. Keyword research is critical to your business’ success

And your content cannot flourish without it. You may be able to create great content, but consider this: is that great content relevant to your niche or to readers you are trying to convert into long-term customers? If the answer is “no”, you better turn it into a “yes” real soon. Keywords that are relevant to your niche, are a right mix for shortened terms and long-tail phrases, and are finalised based on user intent carry a high potential to add wings to your great content so it can go places over the internet. And this means higher rankings, higher traffic, and greater, more consistent return on investment. Sounds quite brilliant, doesn’t it? That’s because it is. And it is the only way to move forward and expand your brand.

If you don’t want your hard-written great content to lose steam before it even takes off, you need to allocate some part of your SEO budget to Keyword research and analysis real soon. Ideally, it should be at least 10% of your total budget.

5. Backlinks are very much alive, and have an evolved purpose

“Backlinks are dead.” We’ve all been hearing about it for as long as we can remember. But are they, really? The answer is both a yes and a no. It’s a yes if you only want them to serve as ranking signals, which is no longer the case. At least, not the only case. It’s a no if you deem them their real purpose, which is to get the community-talk up and rolling, benefiting your brand through engagement and visibility. And this is not mere speculation or hearsay. We say this from what Google has officially confirmed.

While it’s true that as compared to back in the day when Google Search started, backlinks’ relevance as mere ranking signals has significantly dropped. Google’s Official Documentation states: “Google also finds pages through links from other pages. Learn how to encourage people to discover your site by Promoting your site. Chances are, there are a number of sites that cover topic areas similar to yours. Opening up communication with these sites is usually beneficial. Hot topics in your niche or community could spark additional ideas for content or building a good community resource.” What is off-limit is spamming websites with links requests or indulging in blackhat link-buying practices.

And that brings us to the real question. How to go about link-building the right way? Is there even a right way to do so, to begin with? Absolutely, yes! Not all link-building campaigns are paid for or irrelevant. Some are a collaborative effort between websites whose fondness for quality content and overall SEO ethics and sensibilities match each other’s. When such is the case, building backlinks proves beneficial in more ways than one. And when such is the case, backlinks become more of a sustained and consistent marketing effort rather than just buying your way into the top of search rankings, which never lasts long anyway. With December 2022 Link Spam Update in place, you’ll anyway find it impossible to withdraw any benefits from bulk link-buying practices. You need to find other competent and legit ways to really earn backlinks for your website.

Just how important backlinks are to you will decide how much of your SEO budget you want to allocate to them. We think they form the core of your overall SEO strategy. Ideally, it should be at least 30% of your total budget.

SarkarSEO can help you cut-down your SEO budget in 2023 without compromising the quality or range of services on offer

To cut the long story short, extensive website audit with on-page optimisation and bad link removal, and high-quality content to go along with your niche to create equally important high-quality linkable assets is an integral part of each of SarkarSEO’s Monthly SEO Packages. That’s more than half elements that make for a successful SEO strategy. And at prices that don’t put a dent in your pocket and keep your budget in check.

If you find yourself stuck in quicksand to that end, don’t worry, we can get you out. For that is exactly how we function. Being in the SEO business for more than 12 years, we have gained trust and built healthy, mutually-beneficial relationships with websites across niches across the globe.

The more you explore the web for Google ranking signals, the more the chances of your brain turning into sludge. There are varied opinions and as many as 200 factors that can impact a site’s search performance. However, there is a huge difference between hearsay and speculations, and confirmation from the highest authority – Google. So let’s separate dirt from the grains and get straight to business. We have compiled a list of top 9 confirmed Google ranking signals, sticking to which sooner or later would reap positive results for your website and business. Here goes nothing.

Core Web Vitals

LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), FID (First Input Delay), and CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) collectively constitute the Core Web Vitals. Improving your website’s Core Web Vitals leads to an enhanced user experience, and an improved user experience, in turn, increases the likelihood of your site achieving a higher ranking in search results.

Content

Content characterized by readability, high quality, originality, and relevance consistently outperforms content lacking these attributes, significantly increasing the likelihood of securing a top position in search results. Ensure your content aligns with these criteria to win the favor of both your customers and Google.

Mobile-friendliness

It’s widely known that Google has prioritized mobile-first indexing, ensuring that websites needing mobile-friendliness can catch quicker indexing and higher rankings. To enhance your rankings, it’s crucial to embrace mobile-responsive best practices promptly.

Page Speed

This is a well-established fact that has been recognized for years. Page speed has a direct impact on user experience. The quicker a page loads, the more positive the user experience. This is logical since users typically need more patience to wait. Therefore, prioritize enhancing your website’s speed without delay if you wish to retain their interest.

Headings, Title Tags, Image ALT Text

Incorporating H1, H2, and other formatting elements assists Google in comprehending the pivotal segments of your content. Similarly, employing appropriate title tags and Image ALT Texts is just as valuable. These seemingly basic techniques often go unnoticed, yet they yield remarkable results, enhancing the discoverability of your website by a broader audience.

HTTPS

Nothing instills trust in users and search engines like a security seal. Opting for HTTPS over HTTP is a recognized ranking factor and an indispensable element in fostering a secure user experience. If you still need to make this transition, it’s imperative to prioritize it quickly.

Domain History

Domain history serves as a ranking signal in two key ways. First, it assesses the uniqueness of the URL. Second, it considers whether the domain is newly established. In specific instances, your current URL might have been previously associated with a questionable business, resulting in a flag that can, in turn, lower its ranking.

Keyword Placement

As a general guideline, it’s advisable to include your target keyword in the page title, URL slug, meta description, and the opening paragraph. This practice significantly enhances your prospects of achieving a higher ranking. Equally important is the keyword’s strategic placement (avoiding forced usage) throughout the entire page.

Backlinks

Incorporating backlinks from external websites is a potent ranking indicator. However, this process has a caveat—it’s susceptible to manipulation. Therefore, it’s crucial to use due diligence to identify the sources linking to your site. These sources should be authentic, high Domain Authority (DA) websites that hold favor with both readers and search engines.

SarkarSEO’s backlink strategy is one for the ages, and one for all ages, speaking website-wise.

In Google’s December 2022 edition of the SEO Office-hours Hangout Q&A Session, one of Google’s team answered a question about algorithmic penalties and how long does it take to recover from one. Before we delve deep into the topic, it’s important to remember that the question itself pertained to content quality issues and penalties that arose because of them. And that as opposed to the old format, which was more of a direct interaction with Google’s team, the new one doesn’t allow room for follow-up questions. And that sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. The clarity on “penalty” is also a bit muddled; it’s not quite possible to decipher what the user means by the word. Did the website disappear from the search results altogether or simply dropped a few places. Keeping all this in mind, we’ll try and present a rational view of the response.

So, how long does it actually take?

Here’s what the viewer asked.

“…if a website gets algorithmically penalised for thin content, how much of the website’s content do you have to update before the penalty is lifted?”

To which, a Googler responded.

“Well, it’s generally a good idea to clean up low quality content or spammy content that you may have created in the past. For algorithmic actions, it can take us several months to reevaluate your site again to determine that it’s no longer spammy.”

Several months. That is a long time, indeed, especially because it is undefined. But the response is quite similar to what Google Search Advocate John Mueller (we’ll get to it in the next section) had said a little over a year ago. Our experience tells us that it is generally after the next big core update that Google reevaluates your websites after all the content-related changes are made and thin content is weeded out of your website’s system.

Yes, it takes months for Google to reevaluate your website.

Right! Now to Mueller’s response on a similar question that pertained to overall site quality including, of course, content quality.

“Are there any situations where Google negates a site’s authority that can’t be recovered, even if the cause has been rectified. So, assuming that the cause was a short term turbulence with technical issues or content changes, how long will it take Google to reassess the website and fully restore authority, search position and traffic? Does Google have a memory as such?”

Here’s what John had to say about it.

“I think it’s a lot trickier when it comes to things around quality in general where assessing the overall quality and relevance of a website is not very easy. It takes a lot of time for us to understand how a website fits in with regards to the rest of the Internet.

And that means on the one hand it takes a lot of time for us to recognize that maybe something is not as good as we thought it was. Similarly, it takes a lot of time for us to learn the opposite again.

And that’s something that can easily take, I don’t know, a couple of months, a half a year, sometimes even longer than a half a year, for us to recognize significant changes in the site’s overall quality.

Because we essentially watch out for …how does this website fit in with the context of the overall web and that just takes a lot of time. So that’s something where I would say, compared to technical issues, it takes a lot longer for things to be refreshed in that regard.”

The key is to strive to create a better website all the time, with quality content and quality backlinks in place so that even when an update hits or a penalty is given, you can either phase out that difficult period and bounce back pretty quickly. Overall site experience, with faster load-time and easy-to-comprehend site design and content placement also goes a long way, in our opinion. You can listen to Googler’s full response at the 24:24 minute mark, and perhaps stick around for the rest of the discussion for some other valuable insights.

During Google’s November 2022 Office-hours Hangout Q&A Session, Gary Illyes, a Google Webmaster Trend Analyst, addressed a question concerning the abundance of noindex pages on a website. This query came from one of the session’s viewers, who sought clarification on whether having excessive noindex pages would affect the discovery and indexing of other website content. Additionally, they inquired whether a specific threshold of noindex pages exists beyond which Google might view the website suspiciously.
Gary clarified that the noindex attribute is a tool designed by search engines to assist users, emphasizing that its extensive use does not influence how Google crawls or indexes a website. Furthermore, he pointed out that utilizing the noindex tool has no bearing on Google’s crawl budget allocation. Before we delve into the whole question and Gary’s response, let’s gain a comprehensive understanding of what the noindex attribute is and why it serves a purpose in the first place.

What is noindex and why do you need it?

Effective SEO ensures high-quality content ranks well in search results and prevents certain types of pages from appearing in those results. This is precisely where the “noindex” directive comes into play. “Noindex” is a robots meta tag, an HTML attribute that signals search engines to exclude a specific page from search results. Pages containing duplicate or similar content, thin content, or those intentionally designed to remain hidden from search results are often tagged with “noindex” commands.
For instance, consider a scenario where you manage a travel blog, categorizing content by different states. If you wish to prevent one of these state-specific pages from appearing in search results, you will apply a “noindex” directive. Many SEO plugins are purpose-built to automatically or manually instruct search engines to exclude such pages and similar content from search results, streamlining the process.

No, an excessive number of Noindex pages do not cause discovery or indexing issues.

Here’s what Chris, a user, asked the team.

“How much of an issue for Google is the excessive number of noindex pages, and whether it will affect discovery and indexing of content if the volume is too high?”

To which Gary replied with.

“Good question. noindex is a very powerful tool search engines support to help you, the site owner keep content out of their indexes. For this reason, it doesn’t carry any unintended effects when it comes to crawling and indexing. For example, having many pages with noindex will not influence how Google crawls and indexes your site.”

If your motive for keeping these pages out of search results is legitimate, there’s no need for concern. The pages you want Google to find and index will still undergo the regular crawling and indexing. This action doesn’t imply any wrongdoing or cause for worry on your part.
