We are showering so many updates these days but why not google is striking with so many new announcements that can change your SEO game for the better.

If you are new to SEO you must be wondering what MUM is, or what wonders this update could do.

Don’t worry!

I Will cover all the information and update her so you don’t have to waste your time searching for it on various sites.

First of all, MUM is short for Multitask Unified Model. Google introduced a new search algorithm earlier in 2021 that can hunt across languages and with visuals to find solutions to complex questions.

Google MUM is a collection of technologies that work together to answer difficult search queries that cannot be answered by a short snippet or the traditional ten blue links.

MUM aims to answer these difficult questions by combining multiple types of content, such as images and text content in multiple languages, to provide a rich and nuanced response.

Here are some key highlights of this new algorithm

  • MUM, reportedly, builds on Google’s previous algorithm BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers). In May, the company noted that MUM was 1,000 times more powerful than BERT

  • Google is looking to eliminate the need for users to undertake multiple searches to gain context, knowledge, and understanding of a particular topic, by framing answers based not just on textual content but interpretations of images, videos, and audios in ways never before seen

  • Users may now be able to take a picture of something using their smartphone camera and then formulate a search using the image along with textual content

Let’s dig into what’s new in this.

MUM, according to reports, is based on Google’s previous algorithm BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers). The company announced in May that MUM was 1,000 times more powerful than BERT.

It intends to use MUM to recognize a collection of topics related to a user’s search query and present responses in an organized manner. More specifically, Google is attempting to eliminate the need for users to conduct multiple searches in order to gain context, knowledge, and understanding of a specific topic by framing answers based not only on textual content but also on interpretations of images, videos, and audios in newly discovered ways.

MUM’s integration of 75 different languages will also enhance users’ search experiences.

Consider the following scenario: a user enters a simple question such as, ‘What is Neil Amrstrong known for?’ MUM will create a map of topics that may be related to the question and include it in Google’s search results even if the content does not explicitly include any of the search keywords.

Broad subjects are essentially divided into hundreds of subtopics, which Google hopes will provide users with a more comprehensive search experience without sacrificing convenience.

For example, if you want to repair your laptop on your own, you could take a photo of a specific component and include a question like, ‘how do I fix this?’ As one might expect, the Google Lens feature could be useful when shopping. MUM’s sophisticated video decoding capabilities will also enable Google searches to identify and present specific videos related to a search query to a user.

Isn’t is interesting and helpful. Now you can have google search as your friend, your doctor, your secret keeper, your mechanic, and your therapist.

Wait! There’s more to it.

Google Search – Topic Exploration

Topic Zoom is the name given to the second new feature. This feature enables a searcher to navigate between related topics.

A searcher can broaden the topic or narrow it down to a more specific sub-topic.

Visual Exploration

The third new MUM feature appears to be available in Google Search right now.

Visual Exploration is a completely new way to investigate an in-depth search.

Of Course, there will be few complications at the start but according to me, this update will make search so easy for customers as google has loads and loads of unexplored information for people to know. This will also be helpful for the SEO of your content as you can always add these features and help your potential customer to find you.
